Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky was recently a part of an amazing event in California. This event began on 23rd January in Rancho Mirage city. Featuring other sportsmen such as the boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard and NFL champion Emmitt Smith, this event is one fans always look for.

The event is a special speaker series where famous sports personalities will be interviewed. This series is an important landmark after the recent opening of the new $500 million Acrisure arena for hockey in South California. Wayne Gretzky also gave his unique views about being in California for the event. To organize the event, a historic collaboration also took place for the first time. 

The exciting speaker series at Ranch Mirage and Wayne Gretzky’s intriguing views 

The city of Rancho Mirage partnered with the Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa to make this speaker series a reality. This was the first time a casino played such an active role in a sports event.

Not only this, both the Coachella Valley Firebirds team actively promoted Wayne Gretzky’s upcoming interview as per reports. ‘The Great One’s’ interview finally took place with the popular media personality Christine Simpson on the 23rd of January, 2023, in the evening. 

Though Gretzky’s interview is done, the entertainment has just begun. Popular NFL star Emmitt Smith is set to speak in the series on 21st February 2023 and boxing champion Sugar Ray Leonard will speak on 21st March 2023. This will be a live event where fans can book tickets to see their favorite sports personalities live.

Before this interview, ‘The Great One’ also got nostalgic about the time he spent in California. “It was an exciting time of my life”, Gretzky admitted. Earlier, he also had a home in California which he sold for more than $15 million as per reports.

Continuing, the NHL legend added, “To see hockey grow in Southern California, and to have an AHL team in the desert is exciting.” Through this statement, it seems that he is referring to the Coachella Valley Firebirds team which is participating in the American Hockey League. This speaker series was not the only event Gretzky participated him. ‘The Great One’ also participated in the Winter Classic 2023. He also gave his perspective on participating in this event. 

Wayne Gretzky gives his real opinion about the event 

After attending the Winter Classic 2023, Gretzky posted an Instagram story with Richard Tocchet. With this story, he gave the caption, “Great time at the Winter Classic, thank you Boston!”  This event was held at Fenway Park where there was a face-off between the two teams Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Not only this, but Gretzky also signed the Pesky pole in the event. A short video clip of this was posted on the Twitter page B/R Open Ice. The hockey champion also had an interesting experience discussing the game with other legendary personalities like Anson Carter and Paul Bissonnette.
