It is seldom that Wayne Gretzky has been challenged in a one-on-one battle in his storied career. However, Connor McDavid broke that norm when he skated on the ice rink effortlessly, challenging the GOAT of hockey to do the same. This unique shoot was for a recent ad that Wayne Gretzky and Connor McDavid shared on Instagram. 

The ad was shot for BetMgm. BetMgm is an online platform for betting in sports. The ad showed both hockey players seriously talking about challenging each other. Later, both NHL champions disclosed their true feelings after the shoot. 

A unique new commercial that showed the competitive nature of Wayne Gretzky

Both Gretzky and McDavid shared this ad on their Instagram handles. The shoot begins with McDavid smoothly skating at high speed. After The Great One comments on his speed, McDavid agrees with him. Then Gretzky throws him a curveball question. “Faster than I am?” To which McDavid replies, “Definitely.”  This certainly surprised Gretzky. 

Later, McDavid challenges him to try skating on the ice rink, saying, “Wanna go Gretz?” To this, Gretzky replies, “You’re gonna need ice Connor.”  From Gretzky’s expressions, it seems that he is not going to shy away from the challenge.

Afterwards, reacting to this shoot, Gretzky revealed, “Had a blast shooting this one.” He also shared that Connor was much faster than he initially thought. Connor also reacted to this commercial humorously on Instagram. McDavid reiterated that saying that Gretzky maybe the GOAT, but he’s not faster than him on ice. 

Connor McDavid discloses an amusing anecdote with Gretzky 

In 2020, McDavid narrated an incident when Gretzky called him unexpectedly. At the time when ‘The Great One’ called, McDavid was in a car with his friend, listening to music. Though Connor thought that it was Gretzky’s voice, he still couldn’t believe it. “Thought I was being punked”, Connor admitted. However, reducing the music, Connor then spoke to Gretzky, who had called to congratulate him for doing something spectacular. This incident still made them nostalgic and chuckle even after so many years.
