While Wayne Gretzky’s record remains unbroken as a hockey player, he has also dabbled at various sports like golf and lacrosse. In a 1989 interview, Gretzky disclosed his lesser-known interests. He also described how he could surprisingly relate to Michael Jordan.

In an interview with the Arsenio Hall Show on 6th October 1989, Hall asked if he watched other sports, to which Gretzky responded, “Just ask my wife.”  Continuing, he said, “I can watch all day long, baseball and football and tennis and golf.” Gretzky stated that he saw these sports as a fan, where he could understand the pressure the athletes went through.

Wayne Gretzky’s surprising admissions in 1989 

Gretzky explained how he could identify with Michael Jordan while watching him on television. His view was, “I can sense and try to figure out and understand what he’s going through at that time.”  Continuing, Gretzky admitted, “I’ve been in that position of how much pressure there really is.” Evidently, the pressure to perform well in hockey helped Gretzky to empathize with Jordan.

The Great One’ also described his love for baseball in detail in another interview. Gretzky stated that in his early days, he threw away his hockey equipment after practice, impatient to play baseball. He also talked about how he almost signed a $150,000 contract to be a part of a baseball club.  Also, surprisingly, Gretzky not only played different sports but also collaborated with various sports personalities. Strangely, he also once collaborated with Michael Jordan in 1991.

Wayne Gretzky’s unbelievable collaboration with Michael Jordan 

In 1991, Gretzky partnered with Michael Jordan for the broadcast of a cartoon show for kids. . The baseball champion Bo Jackson was also a part of this show named Pro Stars. This show depicted the cartoon characters of Gretzky, Jordan, and Jackson fighting several crimes. However, it was shut down in December 1991 after just 13 episodes. Reacting to the show’s failure, the director Brad Kreisberg said that the concept was probably stretched about why the three main characters were combined.
