“I remember I was in the car with my roommate. And we were picking someone up and obviously, the music’s goin’ and it’s a caller. The caller, it’s Wayne Gretzky!” Connor McDavid recalled. Immediately, he told his friend to turn down the music and heard Gretzky’s voice. Though he recognized the sound, he still couldn’t believe it. “I thought I was bein’ punked….”, Connor McDavid disclosed.

Wayne Gretzky was calling Connor to congratulate him for doing something special while playing hockey. Speaking about the incident, McDavid said that it was the weirdest thing.

Connor also spoke about how he was chosen to play for the Edmonton Oilers. “And obviously the history of Edmonton and because of Wayne and because of lots of players that came before us, it was kind of special.” Davidson also spoke about the pressure to perform well, especially in Edmonton. Interestingly, Wayne had also played for the Edmonton Oilers, which helped the two legends relate.

Connor went on to recall the first time he went to Edmonton and explored the city. He also narrated his experience of seeing the sports arena, Rexall Place.
