Mawj, an Irish filly, is well-known in the horse racing world. During her stellar career, the filly won important races at prestigious events and venues. Because of her tremendous natural speed and talent, fans often debated whether she should be named a race favorite whenever she appeared on any race card. However, the Godolphin team, who owns the horse, has chosen to retire her from racing responsibilities as of late.

The announcement of Mawj’s retirement went viral once it was posted on Godolphin’s official website. The horse has been an integral part of the horse racing community, as her trainer Saeed Bin Suroor spoke highly of the star filly in the statement. Suroor also reminisced about a special time he had spent with Mawj.

A nostalgic memory of the trainer

The chemistry between Mawj and trainer Saeed Bin Suroor was always perfect on the track. They have won and overcome obstacles side by side over the filly’s remarkable journey. Mawj was described by Suroor as a very special filly in Godolphin’s official statement since the horse showed her brilliance throughout her racing career.” A “fantastic day” was also recalled by the trainer when Mawj brought him his “500th Group race victory” with her victory in the Qipco 1000 Guineas Stakes (Gr. 1).

To further emphasize the filly’s accomplishments, Suroor said that she has “proved herself against the best horses across the world.” In addition, Suroor elaborates on Mawj’s performance in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, when she came very close to winning first place. According to Suroor, the outstanding filly will be missed by everyone at the Godolphin Stables, but they are looking forward to the “next stage of her life as a broodmare.” While Mawj didn’t get off to a good start in 2024, she nevertheless retired as a top-notch horse thanks to her impressive career, in which she stunned many admirers at her debut.

The stellar career of star filly Mawj

Saeed bin Suroor, Mawj’s trainer, sent her out for her first race at Newmarket. The filly surprised everyone by charging across the track under jockey Ray Dawson to win her novice race. The horse subsequently secured second place in the Grade 3 Albany Stakes before getting back on track and dominating the Grade 2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes. She continued to compete in graded stakes all through the 2022 season, which concluded with the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr. 1).

The 2023 season got off to a roaring start for the filly at Meydan Racecourse, where she won in style. Thanks to her triumph, Mawj got a shot at the Qipco 1000 Guineas Stakes (Gr. 1). The horse won her third race of the season in a row after receiving the chance to compete in the G1 event. Seeing their star filly go down in racing history was a joyous moment for everyone at Godolphin Stables, as they now look forward to her shining brightly as a prominent broodmare.
