The 150th edition of the country’s most prestigious race has horse racing fans on their toes for months. While the conundrum regarding the participants who are likely to race at the Kentucky Derby 2024 continues to make fans nervous, some others are getting the ball rolling to make this weekend’s race a memorable one. Thirty-four years ago, sisters Patricia Barnstable Brown and Priscilla Barnstable started a party to get the attendees fired up for the Derby that has since become a signature of the event itself. And now, they’re back once again.

The Derby week will see a long line of celebrities heading to Louisville for the milestone edition of the race, and many of them will be spotted at the Barnstable Brown Kentucky Derby Eve Gala on Friday night. Along with preparing the guests for the next day’s event, the Gala will also raise money for the UK HealthCare’s Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center.

When Patricia and Priscilla started the party with their late mother Wilma and Patricia’s late husband David, they never imagined it would become one of the most sought-after events of the season. The list includes NFL and New York Jets star Aaron Rodgers. The Superbowl winner will be joined by the likes of Hollywood celebrity Cole Hauser, whose performance in movies like Yellowstone has established among the most revered stars. American rapper Jack Harlow is also expected to make his appearance at the gala event on the eve of the Kentucky Derby 2024, making sure the playlist is on par with the uniqueness of the event.

Comedian Tracy Morgan, iconic musician Kid Rock, and singer Travis Tritt are also among the attendees at the Barnstable Brown Gala. As fans are once again expected to throng outside 1700 Spring Drive to watch the celebrities arrive, the invitation-only party will definitely set the mood for the next day’s big showdown like no other.

More than just a bling event

Singer Wynonna Judd, poised to sing the tunes of the national anthem at the Kentucky Derby the next day, will also be making an appearance at the Barnstable Brown’s private Kentucky home. Meanwhile, in 2022, rapper Harlow created a tune called Churchill Downs in collaboration with Drake for the Kentucky Derby Eve Gala affair. And now, it waits to be seen if he has anything as elaborate planned for this year’s event as well. However, the celebrity line-up isn’t the only highlight of the big night ahead of the race.

As has been the case since its inception in 1989, the Brownstable Gala will be raising charity for diabetes research and support. Over 35 years, the sisters and their families have raised approximately $20 million for the cause. The money went to the establishment of a diabetes center in the UK, in memory of Patricia’s late husband David, who passed away from diabetes in 2003.
