The New York Yankees have strengthened their squad by signing a top-ranked international prospect, Roderick Arias. 17-year-old Roderick belongs to the Dominican Republic and is a shortstop in baseball.
As per Jesse Sanchez of MLB, the Yankees have agreed to a $4 million deal with the Dominican Republic shortstop. Arias is reportedly the top international prospect in the market. However, the Yankees, who have a base signing pool of around $5 million, are yet to confirm the agreement.

The Yankees’ top international signing
Arias is all set to become the Yankees’ biggest international signing since the current outfielder Jasson Dominguez in 2019. According to Sanchez, Arias is a good deal for the Yankees, as the shortstop is considered one of the most promising talents in baseball. Arias and Dominguez will make an exciting duo for the Yankees, as both of them will play their majors at approximately the same time.

As per MLB’s Jesse Sanchez, Arias is an above-average player, as he also has a strong arm. From his accurate throws to good footwork, Arias also possesses good bat-to-bat skills and strike zone awareness. He can be powerful from both sides of the plate as a switch hitter.

When it comes to shortstops, the New York Yankees already have Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza as shortstops. Both of them are expected to play in the majors by the 2023 season.
