The annual Cy-Hawk series is approaching fast and things are tense. Despite Iowa State winning the 2022 Cy-Hawk award, the Hawkeyes managed to wriggle out a triumph in wrestling. Now, ISU wrestling head coach Kevin Dresser looks to set the table ahead of the clash this Sunday.

Dresser has been the head coach for ISU wrestling for seven years now. He’s achieved numerous accolades during his time with Iowa State but last year’s loss at Iowa City is something of a hard pill for him to swallow. Understandably, Dresser is looking everywhere to find his mojo and bring his team back to the tracks at the Hilton Coliseum.

ISU wrestling coach optimistic about Sunday’s Cy-Hawk wrestling meeting

At a recent press conference, Dresser was heard discussing the prospect of wrestling in the Cy-Hawk series. He admitted that the Hawkeyes held more advantage during their last meeting. Even though ISU wrestling put up a commendable fight, they had to accept an 18-15 defeat. “They were better than us“, acknowledged Dresser. Major contributions from the likes of Spencer Lee helped the Hawkeyes to lift their 18th consecutive title at last year’s Cy-Hawk wrestling dual.

Despite the last loss, Dresser thinks keeping focus is important. Relaxing programs like afterparties are definitely something that helps to overcome setbacks and the ISU wrestling coach thinks being corralled will play a pivotal factor in how Iowa State performs on the mat this Sunday.

Being passionate about the sport is another thing that Dresser says will have a definitive impact on the ISU’s wrestling clash at the Cy-Hawk series. While the Hawkeyes outrank ISU by a long shot, their last two meetings have been close and Dresser wants to inject just a little more moral into his players.

Iowa Hawkeyes having a smooth sail at the moment

The Hawkeyes wrestling is brimming with confidence and a winning streak is making things all the better. Only last week, the Iowa women’s wrestling team made a historic home debut in front of 8,000 viewers. Not only that, Hawkeyes freshman Gabe Arnold recently triumphed over all-American Travis Wittlake to announce his debut.
