In fact, she also received a massive feature from the International Judo Federation (IJF) on social media.

Marie-Ève Gahié entered another International Judo Federation Grand Slam with her indomitable technique. The 2019 World Championship gold medalist stunned the crowds of Baku as she faced a Great Britain opponent.

The Frenchwoman didn’t wait around and went straight for the kill, and trounced her opponent in just four seconds. The International Judo Federation uploaded the video of the impressive ippon on their official X handle to showcase the insanely fast finish.

The tweet carried the caption, “Over in the blink of an eye! Marie-Ève Gahié gets one of the fastest ippons on tour!” The video displayed Gahié unflinchingly walking towards her opponent while the British judoka struggled to put up a defensive stance. Gahié established a strong grip on her opponent and used her right leg to shift the Brit’s body off balance. This was followed by a powerful slam that earned the world champion a clean and speedy victory. 

The 26-year-old judo expert finished her campaign at Baku with a bronze in the women’s 70kg category. This marked the French Judoka’s tenth IJF medal, bolstering her strength and resolve for the upcoming Olympics in her home country.

Gahié’s exploit treated the judo enthusiasts to a second lightning-fast finish in a span of just two days. In fact, the Azerbaijani crowd erupted in cheers as their home competitor finished the match in seconds.

Najafov powers through to the gold in 13 seconds

The host nation of Azerbaijan erupted in cheers when Yashar Najafov dispatched his opponent in just 13 seconds. The 66kg weight-class judoka delivered a cold and calculated execution against his Japanese counterpart, Takeshi Takeoka.

Najafov faced Takeoka after storming through the ranks of several IJF competitors representing 61 participating nations. Najfov instantly measured up to his Japanese foe and took control of the situation. Before Takeoka could launch an offense, he found his back slam onto the mats within just 13 seconds.

The 24-year-old beat Takeoka in the finals of the IJF championship, earning a prestigious gold medal for the home side. The Azerbaijani judo star qualified for the upcoming 2024 Olympics. The endlessly passionate judo star will aim to repeat his IJF success on the grand stage of Paris as well.
