“Didn’t Think Anyone in America Would Notice My Work”: Jackie Chan Downplayed His Achievements Despite Creating History at Oscars 2016

Jackie Chan is one of the most iconic superstars of global cinema. His movies and action sequences have revolutionized the industry. He is globally renowned and a proud Oscar-winning filmmaker from China. But even the legend had to struggle to gain recognition in Hollywood.

Jackie Chan, a martial artist, and actor, is renowned for leading the charge for acrobatic action choreography in Hollywood movies. However, ‘Little Jack’ had to work on more than 200 films to get global recognition. He received the honorary Oscar award in 2016. He penned down the feeling of getting Oscars in his autobiography, ‘Never Grow Up’.

Jackie Chan had the least hope of getting an Oscar

Jackie Chan received the honorary Oscars award for his immense contribution to the film industry at 62. Till then, he had already set up high standards for action heroes. Even he had never thought of winning the highest award.

In his autobiography, he mentioned that winning the Oscars never appeared possible to him. He said, “I never thought winning an Oscar was remotely possible“. His movies had a tremendous fanbase in Asia. But initially, they did not receive much recognition from the west. “Didn’t think anyone in America would notice my work”, he added

His dedication turned out to be fruitful. After delivering many exceptional performances, the Oscars gave him the recognition he deserved. Over three decades, but the wait was worth it.

Jackie thanked everyone in his unique style

Jackie Chan’s sense of humor is as popular as his action sequences. His martial art skills and smooth humor entertains the whole world. He never leaves the chance to make the audience smile or laugh. So how can he let go of such a chance, that too on the grandest stage of all? Jacky pointed out his long wait in a sarcastic way. He joked, “To get encouragement and recognition from Hollywood—while I’m still young!—was deeply gratifying.”

However, Jackie Chan wrote that his highest rewards were the opportunities he got. He admitted, “The real honour and reward, the one I treasure the most, is getting to live out my childhood”.
