Like many other Hollywood celebrities, Jackie Chan’s name has also featured in controversies. In 1999, he got involved in an extra-marital affair with model Elaine Ng Yi-Lei. In fact, that relationship furthered to having a baby named Etta Ng Chok Lam. However, the martial artist had a tough time then and felt it difficult to undergo the criticism of the media, and face his wife and son.

Joan Lin seemed indifferent to Jackie Chan once

While sharing his life story in his memoir Never Grow Up, Chan opened up about some dark phrases of his life. The Rush Hour actor once called his wife to confess his “mistake”. When he asked, “Have you seen the papers?”, Joan flatly answered, “I have.” She sounded calm and composed which Chan couldn’t withstand. He wanted her to yell at him, but seemingly, Joan was not in a position of doing that.

However, seeing her silent, Chan proceeded to fill the void, and stammered while saying, ?I . . . don?t know . . . how to explain . . .” Though Chan anticipated he would have to face a strong argument with Joan with might lead to divorce, her unresponsive gesture startled him. In fact, she later spoke up and consoled Chan. Nevertheless, Chan understood how he had failed her. He expressed the situation in his book saying, “I started crying before she?d finished speaking. I did not deserve this woman. I was too emotional and tongue-tied to say more…”

Chan never trusted his wife before

The Hollywood actor doubted that Joan would run away with all his money. He inculcated this idea from some of his friends who were fooled by their girlfriends who not only cheated on them but also deserted them after taking all the expensive things they had. This created an idea in him that his wife could do the same with him too.
