“Just Want Bruce Lee to Hold Me”: Jackie Chan Once Faked an Injury After Getting Hit by the Martial Arts Legend

Bruce Lee was a pioneer in introducing martial arts films worldwide. The martial arts legend, as an actor, is regarded as one of the most influential personalities who plugged the gap between the East and West. Also, he was instrumental in arousing Western interest in Chinese martial arts. He is every martial artist’s biggest idol. And Jackie Chan is no exception.

Jackie Chan is one of the widely recognized actors across the globe. The Hong Kong martial artist and actor is renowned for his slapstick acrobatic fighting style, timing, and fascinating stunts. Beginning in the 1960s, Chan has featured “Enter the Dragon” starring martial arts legend, Bruce Lee holds a special place in his heart.

Jackie Chan relished the moment with Bruce Lee

On the sets was Chan, a 19-year-old young lad living his dream. It was a fight sequence with Bruce Lee, and Chan couldn’t be happier. While shooting the scene, Chan was hit across his face and Lee ran to check on him. In an interview nine years ago, he shared what that moment meant to him.

Chan took advantage of the situation to satiate his desire as a fan. “He runs to me and lifts me. ‘I’m sorry. I’m sorry.’” Chan narrated. He was a young guy, very tough, and was not in pain. “But for something, I don’t know why. I pretended it was painful.” He continued, “Oh, ow, ow,” I just want Bruce Lee to hold me for as long as he can.” Chan recounted the moment as the “Best story ever.”

Lee was born in the U.S. but raised in Hong Kong. Owing to his birth, he had U.S. Citizenship. Lee incorporated his skills of boxing, Wing Chun, tai chi, and street fighting in his personal martial arts style. The movie “Enter the Dragon” was more special as it was the last movie of the legend, Lee.

Bruce Lee passed away in 1973

The movie “Enter the Dragon” was a massive hit. Unfortunately, in 1973, a month before the release of the movie, Lee passed away. He was diagnosed with a condition called cerebral edema in which fluid builds up around the brain. Months later, he took his last break reportedly due to an allergic reaction to the painkiller given as a remedy to his headache.

Although Chan and Lee had a very small screen presence together, Lee inspired Chan to rise as an actor. Eventually, he dominated the industry for more than three decades. To this date, Chan’s movies are a delight, filled with action and fun.
