“Wouldn’t It Be Terrible if I Died Skiing” : Jackie Chan, Who Performed Risky Stunts All Day, Once Strongly Opposed to Participate in Extreme Sports

Trained in martial arts such as judo, karate and taekwondo, Jackie Chan is a legend. Popular for his daredevil stunts in various movies such as Armour of God, and Rumble in the Bronx, Chan has his own movie production company. In his autobiography ‘Never Grow up’, he disclosed his shocking aversion for participating in extreme sports such as skiing and mountain climbing. 

The acting legend’s statements are surprising, as he has trained in various martial arts at the China Drama academy. Chan’s opinions also reflect how Chan has put some restrictions on himself for good measure.

Jackie Chan’s Disclosure About His Aversion to Extreme Sports and Shooting in the Snow 

Jackie Chan narrated how his co-star Michelle Young wanted to go skiing with him. Further, he also mentioned Michelle’s desire to gather some friends and ski together. Recalling his response, the actor said “No skiing.”

Explaining the reason for this decision, the martial arts legend said, “I don’t want to do these dangerous sports. I already have to do risky stunts all day. I hardly get a break.”

Further speaking, the actor added, “Besides, wouldn’t it be terrible if I died skiing, skating or mountain climbing?” Chan then gave his interesting opinion. “If I wanted to go like that, I’d want it to be recorded on film, so people know what I was doing.” His reasoning for this statement was that if something went wrong when he was skiing or mountain climbing, people would know about his courage.

Chan also narrated how he was caught up in a blizzard while searching for a mobile phone. The martial arts artist also remarked how before the shoot of his movie ‘The Climber’ began, he discussed his experiences about shooting in the snow with the team. 

Jackie Chan’s Frank Admissions about his stunts and serious injury 

The popular actor revealed how he injured his head in Yugoslavia in the 1980s. Continuing, he mentioned that due to the injury; he was in a coma for more than 5 days. The martial arts expert also disclosed how he has a specific team now to protect him while doing dangerous stunts. This helps him to ensure that his health is not affected by his dangerous stunts.

Jackie Chan’s reason for not wanting to ski is practical. It also shows that Jackie Chan doesn’t want to experience dangerous situations since he puts himself at risk while doing stunts. As martial arts fans, we can understand his decision and hope to see more of his films in future.
