If we set a good example for him he too can be a good example for his little brother or sister.” Phelps enjoys playing with his sons and also makes them study and even helps them with their homework. He is consistently there for them, ensuring they know how much he loves them.

Michael Phelps’s childhood was a mix of both difficulties and achievements. He was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder at a very young age which made school a challenge for him. As early as kindergarten, Phelps had trouble with inattention. A teacher told his mother, ?Your son will? never be able to focus on anything.” However, swimming became his sanctuary, where he excelled.

He also faced bullying in school and struggled with feelings of depression and anxiety. Describing himself as a child in his book?No Limits: The Will to Succeed, Phelps doesn?t paint a very flattering picture: ?I had big ears. I was scrawny. I got picked on, a lot.? But swimming helped him overcome these hurdles. The pool provided a sense of purpose and belonging, allowing him to focus his energy and determination on training.
