On April 11th, 2022, the Houston Astros unveiled their new theme for the 2022 season jerseys, the City Connect Space City theme. The name ‘Space City’ will be embedded in the chest area of the Astros. April 20th, 2022, will be the debut of the Space City jerseys as the Astros will face the Los Angeles Angels.

The Houston Astros will wear this uniform for every home game in the MLB 2022 season. The jersey comes under Nike’s MLB City Connect project, where they plan on honoring the connection between the club and the city.

The Houston Astros made a perfect video for the big reveal. The video includes Dr. Bernard Harris, who was the first African American to operate an extravehicular activity. He was part of two important space missions, STS-63 and STS-55. It’s working toward America’s Space programs is what he talks about in Houston.

He proudly states, “Houston has always been on a mission. Mission to innovate. A mission to inspire. A mission to win. And this uniform represents that quality.” He then says the tagline of the new jersey, “This is Houston. This is Space City.”

Another interesting thing found in the uniform is the modern touch that blends perfectly with a jersey design from the 1970s. The retro-modern feel is quite fresh and appealing to the eye. The sleeve of the uniform includes a patch with a state flag of Texas on the inside, surrounded by 4 area codes on the outside.
