Will Max Scherzer start on opening day for New York Mets?
When deGrom injured himself, it was quite obvious that Max Scherzer will play as the starting pitcher. Until Scherzer’s hamstring issue came up. However, despite his injury, Scherzer is likely to play on opening day for the Mets.
As per MLB Insider Jon Heyman, the Mets pitcher is not concerned about his hamstring. Because Scherzer believes it’s a minor injury. “Max Scherzer is said unconcerned about a hamstring “tweak.” Thought very minor at this point,” tweeted Heyman.

Though Scherzer’s injury is minor, it is still not a good sign for the Mets. Because they have already lost Jacob deGrom for a month or more due to a shoulder injury. Earlier on Saturday, the Mets announced that deGrom will not be able to pitch for up to 4 weeks.

Given that the current free agency has been a good one for the Mets, they have a very strong chance to make the playoffs. But only if their key players remain in prime health for the season. Else they will end up as a mid-table team, like the past few seasons.
