The New York Yankees are in build mode. And by the looks of it, they aren’t simply preparing for the next season or the one after that. The Yankees seem to be targeting top youth prospects to build a team for the decades to come. The most recent addition to the list is Cuban outfielder, Brandon Mayea, who will qualify to be signed in the international window in 2022-23.

The New York Yankees are well on course to set up a talent churner in their farm system; especially with prospects like Anthony Volpe, Oswald Peraza, and Luis Medina all enjoying breakout seasons in lower A ball in 2021. The trick, however, will be in retaining this talent for years to come.

With players the caliber of Jasson Dominguez, and Volpe in your ranks, you may need to find a place in your roster soon. Lest you risk them moving on for greener pastures. New York Yankees to sign the newest prospect

The Yankees really have made the most of the international market. Especially in the past few seasons, the Yankees really have used a good amount of their spending power in the window. And this speaks to a process. A process that began with the Yankees acquiring bonus pool money and saving up for the right candidates.

Possibly, the Yankees may have seen this as an advantageous strategy to drafting mid-20-year-olds like the rest of the league. This gives them the opportunity to work with a prospect for longer and with more resources.

And 2022-2023 seems like it will be no different for the Yankees. Next year’s top international prospect, Cuban talent, Brandon Mayea was spotted sporting Yankees gear as he took the home plate. His at-bats in the pinstripes spoke to more than just his ability. Maybe even his future destination. Even Yankees prospect writer, Eli Fishman, observed that Mayea was sporting Yankees ear from head to toe.

However, it looks unlikely that this signing is a surefire deal still. Mayea has generated significant interest from across the league and although only 16 right now, he has garnered serious interest. The outfielder occupies center field and with top scouts rating his talent, he may just be one for the future.
