Houston Astros Make Last-Stand Offer To Carlos Correa Amidst Chicago Cubs Advances

Carlos Correa and the talks of his trade have come on to dominate the 2022 off-season. With the superstar shortstop in the market for a reportedly bumper contract, the chance of his move away from the city appear to be strong; but his stay in the city cannot be ruled out either. And according to the latest reports, the Houston Astros may just have made contact with the star to retain his services.
With Correa turning free agent just prior to the commencement of the lockout, he appeared to be in no hurry to sign on. Reportedly, Correa is looking for a mega deal the likes of Corey Seager signed with the Rangers year. Even possibly intending to beat the 10-year $325 million contract in his free agency. And with several teams still in for the shortstop, this could well be a possibility.

Carlos Correa to return to the Astros?
While free agency remains to be uncharted waters, the Astros certainly have made their interest for Correa known to his agents. Reportedly, getting in touch with the superstar’s agent, the Astros seem to be putting together a bid to capture the superstar. And soon.

A longer time on the free agent market could potentially lead to a bidding war; with several franchises interested in landing the player. While the Chicago Cubs have made their interest all too known; the New York Yankees and the LA Dodgers too remain in the race for landing the talented hitter’s services for the upcoming season.

The Houston Astros have already made a failed pass at re-signing Correa. Prior to the beginning of the lockout, the franchise had offered an extension to Correa but that did not seem to be in line with what the athlete needed at the time. With a 5-year $160 million contract on offer, Correa was quick to dismiss any talks at the time.
Several reports have indicated that Correa is on the lookout for a deal that services his prime. A deal that gets him $300 million plus over a 10-year period at least. Anything dropping lower than those two parameters is not something that Correa is willing to consider; with the Yankees softening on the finances while the Cubs are reportedly unsure of the 10-year commitment.
