With Nike announcing their city connect jerseys for 2022 in April, the Houston Astros saw their sales shoot up almost 3 fold. The spike in sales is comparable only to sales after their 2017 World Series win. The Astros sported their jerseys as they took on the LA Angels in a two-game series starting on April 20th and saw raucous support from fans. And as good as the uniform looked in pictures, it was only better on the diamond.

Perhaps motivated by some solid photoshoots or by the loyal fanbase that the Astros have developed, the Nike City Connect jerseys saw record numbers. The uniform has captured the imagination of many in MLB. With the Astros relying heavily on their space connection, the uniform is a dark space blue. It features the Astros’ orange for text; the futuristic lettering features the words ‘Space City’ across the front. The Nike connection is clear from a yellow swoosh to denote its sports sponsor.

The ball club thanked the fans for embracing the new uniforms with open arms. “We are excited and grateful that our fans and the city of Houston have embraced Space City, our first new uniforms in six years,” the club said.

Speaking on behalf of the Astros, Anita Sehgal, Senior VP, Marketing and Communications addressed the media. SaidSehgal, “The details and storytelling within the uniform is what really makes it special. Our Space City, City Connect uniforms are inspired by the spirit of Houstonians while celebrating what makes us unique.”

The Astros saw the best record for any City Connect uniforms smashing all previous records. Beating the previous record by 329%, the Houston Astros were the most successful of the nine City Connect uniforms rolled out by the sports company.

The Houston Astros store too enjoyed a successful run too. With the cash registers dinging from purchases up 73% from their title-winning season in 2017.

The Astros’ threads are clearly the most popular in MLB. And thanks to a brilliant design and some solid team success from the recent past too, their popularity seems to be soaring.
