Once the lockout in Major League Baseball ends and the regular-season starts, the game of baseball will be a bit different from recent years. Notably, from this season onwards, MLB has announced the inclusion of two new rules. And with these recent changes, it seems like the New York Mets are quite happy. Recently, the Mets’ hitting coach Eric Chavez said he loves the inclusion of universal DH (designated hitter).

A week ago, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, during his media address, announced that from the 2022 season, universal DH will play in all leagues, while the draft-pick compensation for free agents will be eliminated. Notably, earlier universal designated hitters were part of only the American League teams in MLB. But from the 2022 season, the National League teams can play a universal DH in their squad.

In the new collective bargaining agreement -which is yet to be agreed upon – owners accepted the players’ demand to allow universal DH in the National League. This will benefit probably every team in MLB.
According to Newsday, the New York Mets’ hitting coach Eric Chavez believes the same. He said that the inclusion of universal DH will favor his side this year. While Mets manager Buck Showalter also agreed that the inclusion of universal DH will fit them better. Not only for the sake of the game but from fans and the squad’s point of view, it is better for everyone.

“I love it, personally. I always hated seeing pitchers get hurt. It’s a part of the game,” Chavez said. “I get the history part of it. But I think it’s better for the overall game. And definitely as of now the way it’s set up, I think it’s definitely going to favor us this year.”
