Despite making some notable signings in the 2022 free agency, the Mets suffered some injury setbacks at the very start of the season. Their starting pitcher, Jacob deGrom, is yet to play any league games this season, because of his shoulder injury. And yet, the Mets players do not shy away from starting a fight in the middle of the game.

On Wednesday, when the Mets were playing against the St. Louis Cardinals, the two sides bench-cleared and engaged in a massive brawl amidst the game. The incident took place when the Cardinals hitter Nolan Arenado got a pitch near his head. However, Arenado believes that the pitch was not intentional.

Though the Cardinals won the third game against the New York Mets, they lost the series, as the Mets had already won the first two games of the series. Talking about the third game, when Arenado was batting at the plate, Yoan Lopez was on the mound from the Mets.

Lopez threw a nasty pitch that went close to Arenado’s head. This incident led to benches-clearing and a massive fight in the ballpark. Talking about the pitch, Arenado said that he just felt it was close to his head. While he also admitted that the pitcher might not have thrown it intentionally.

“I do not know how close it was. It just fell high, it just felt close…,” Arenado said. “I mean, I’m not saying he is trying to throw it up there… But that’s the problem with that stuff. It is an unfortunate part of the game and it is what it is.”

The Cardinals star also admitted that the Mets won the series because they played batter baseball. “I mean at the end of the day they won the series,” Arenado added. “They played better baseball than us and it was gonna come out with a win today… I just did not like where that I figure was coming…”

Despite the brawl in the ballpark, no players got injured. But it will always be a question, why is this happening with the Mets only?
