The New York Mets may have assembled one of the most vaunted pitching rotations in all of baseball. But their fans may still need to wait to see both, Scherzer and Jacob DeGrom take the mound. With Spring training ramping up, fans too were getting excited about seeing the combo in action. However, it seems as though those plans will have to be placed on wait as DeGrom has reportedly found himself on the injured list, at least to start the season that is.

Jacob DeGrom was the New York Mets’ most talismanic pitcher in the 2021 season. That is until he suffered a freak injury during batting practice. DeGrom spent the rest of the season recuperating instead. Having signed on the top talents of Max Scherzer in 2022; Mets fans were hyped for the pitcher rotation the Citi Field would be seeing. Jacob DeGrom – Out of Contention?

The New York Mets tweeted from their official handle that DeGrom has been advised relief from throwing for a minimum of 4 weeks. After which they will re-image his shoulder and take a decision about pitching.

Reportedly, DeGrom underwent an MRI on Thursday. That revealed a stress reaction on his scapula that has caused inflammation in the area. While the cause is still uncertain. The immediate course of action was to take DeGrom away from pitching and reassess for the near future.

Could he return?

The Mets however, seem hopeful of his return. As they have stated before, after DeGrom finishes his 4-week hiatus, the plan of care will be upgraded. However, it seems unlikely after this news that the Mets will be able to rely on DeGrom’s services to start off the season.
