The MLB Lockout has been hard on players everywhere. Perhaps even more so for fans of the game. But it does allow us some time to think back and recalibrate baseball content. In either case, we aren’t complaining. And a lot of that might be down to players engaging with fans online. Christian Yelich joined the latest in fan interactions online and carried them forward in his own little way.

The Brewers star recently made his first foray into the world of TikTok but came up against a bit of a wall. The username that Yelich wanted to use had already been taken up by another user on the application. Recently, though, Yelich has responded to his cyber squatter in a way that’ll keep us all entertained.

Christian Yelich and his response to the fan

In a curious case of identity theft, Yelich relinquished his hold on his identity as being Christian Yelich and was actually advising his fan on how to be himself for a variety of things. Funnily enough, this included Yelich’s return to baseball. And him asking his fans to take his place is about enough to crack out Top 10 funniest things to happen this lockout.

Going about it fairly systematically, Yelich starts with telling the fan that the lockout is eventually going to end. And at that point, she would need to return to playing baseball, as she was now Christian Yelich. “It’s too late now. You are Christian Yelich,” he said.

He pointed out that the team, possibly referring to his home, Brewers will eventually start back up after the lockout. This would mean that the spring training dates would soon come up and Yelich would be required to report. However, now that the imposter had decided to take his identity, she should now report instead of him.

“Once I get those, I’ll make sure I DM (direct message) those to you,” Yelich remarked, referring to dates of spring training.

And it doesn’t end there either. The player went on to mention that equipment staff would soon reach out to get Yelich kitted up. “They’re gonna wanna know sizes, cleats, brand preferences, that whole deal,” he added.

Christian asked the fan to reach out to him and he would make all the calls to make sure that the right size and right model got delivered. Ending the video message Yelich added that the fan would of course need to play, “It’s gonna be hard and all that,” Yelich mentioned casually, “but, you know…..”

For the sake of our sanity, we certainly hope that baseball returns soon. And the first day of spring training is enough for Yelich’s TikTok imposter to let Christian take control of his account again.
