The Carlos Correa train may have slowed down because of the lockout, but by no means has it stopped. The destination of the top free agent this off-season may not be definite, but it seems like a definite possibility that Correa will turn out in pinstripes come 2022. And while fans may be bullish about the signing, commentator Michael Kay has a slightly different opinion on the subject.

Carlos Correa is undoubtedly the most sought-after free agent this off-season. With a solid ability to back his skills, Correa has the accolades to decide on his fate too. The signing of Scott Boras as an agent seems to be the final piece of the puzzle. And with a litany of teams in pursuit of the shortstop, this could be rife for a bidding war. However, if Michael Kay is to be believed, one bidder may just have dropped out of the potential list.

New York Yankees – No longer a likely destination?
Carlos Correa’s Bronx future stands in the balance, at least if Michael Kay is to believe. Appearing on a podcast recently, he spoke about why he believes that the Correa signing is unlikely to turn towards the Bronx at the moment.

Adding to his views, Kay said, “I don’t think shortstop is a priority in terms of getting a long term guy.”

Kay spoke about how it is unlikely that Correa will sign for the Pinstripes considering that it is likely the Yankees may look to rely on their prospects in the long term. The talk from Correa’s camp has been clear. They are looking for a monster deal the likes of Seager. This would likely mean a 10-year commitment along with at least a $325 million financial line to go with it.

And with emergent prospects the likes of Volpe and Peraza, it seems unlikely that the Yankees could look to commit to a superstar signing long term. However, it remains up for consideration if this is the path that the Yankees decide to take. Kay was of a different opinion, though. He said, “In my opinion, I think their priority has to be first base.”
