Reasons for Derek Jeter’s exit

Derek Jeter issued a statement stepping down from the franchise from his role. In it, he mentioned that it was down to the “current vision of the franchise and its future is “different than the one [he] signed up to lead.” However, with the story developing, there may be another addition as to what that change was.

Reporter Joel Sherman stated that prior to going into the lockout, the Marlins had indicated to Jeter a budget. They had said at the time that the Marlins would be ready to spend $10 Million to $15 Million on their 2022 roster. However, with the ongoing nature of the lockout, that was a key change in strategy where the club decided to not go ahead with the level of investment.

Reportedly, this played a key part in Jeter’s decision to leave as CEO.
