Canseco Calls out A-Rod

In a recent set of tweets, Canseco took to Twitter to call out A-Rod to a boxing match. The outfielder, who played for the Oakland Athletics in his heyday tweeted that he would like to take on the former Yankee. That is of course once he had finished rehab on his shoulder and knee.

In what was one of the most dominant seasons for a batter, Canseco put together one of the best stat lines by any Major League Baseball player in 1988.

Canseco led the league in home runs  scoring 42 of them that year. He also led the AL in RBIs, getting 124, while hitting .307. Canseco was named the MVP of the American League in that season. He was the first player to score 40 homeruns and steal 40 bases in the same season. His nickname Mr. 40/40 was coined hence.

And Canseco didn’t have just 1 standout season. In 1991, he led the league in homers again with 44 of them off his barrel. He also drove in 122 runs that year. Even in 1998, well into the eve of his career, the power hitter dispatched 46 home runs and added a solid 107 RBIs.
