The lockout in Major League Baseball is now over 10 weeks old. With this work stoppage, not only players and fans but also MLB teams are troubled. During the lockout, neither any team nor a player can negotiate any kind of deal.

With free agents like Carlos Correa, Clayton Kershaw, and Freddie Freeman available in the MLB market, many teams are waiting for the lockout to end to make their moves. Apart from the Yankees, New York Mets are also one of the teams who are going through massive changes in their squad.

Earlier, there were reports that the Mets were interested in signing the free-agent Clayton Kershaw. But now the equation seems to have changed. Recent reports suggest that the Mets have a keen interest in the former White Sox pitcher Carlos Rodon.

New York Mets planning to pursue Carlos Rodon

Ever since the Mets hired Buck Showalter as their manager, he has been busy strengthening the squad. First, he brought the star pitcher and free agent Max Scherzer and his eyes are on another free agent, Carlos Cordon.

As per Andy Martino of SNY TV, this situation wouldn’t have come if Kevin Gausman, along with Max Scherzer, would have signed for the Mets before the lockout. To get Gausman back to the Mets, Steven Cohen (The Mets’ owner) was personally involved. But, Gausman didn’t accept the offer and chose to go with the Toronto Blue Jays. And the need for another pitcher remained for the Mets.

Earlier, reports suggested that free agent Clayton Kershaw will be the next target for the Mets. But, considering the massive price of Kershaw, the Mets have shifted their interest towards Carlos Rodon.

Carlos Rodon in MLB

The 29-year-old star pitcher made his Major League Baseball debut in 2015 for the Chicago White Sox and played a total of seven seasons for them. However, his contract with the White Sox expired after the 2021 season and since then he is a free agent. Rodon was a starting pitcher for the White Sox and if the Mets manage to land him. Then they won’t have to spend as much money as on Clayton Kershaw.
