However, Mets’ shortstop Francisco Lindor is of the opinion that while deGrom’s loss is a big blow to the team, the true improvements need to happen elsewhere.

The New York Mets may have assembled one of the most decorated mound rotations in MLB for 2022, but a game isn’t won until both departments fire. And Francisco Lindor seems only too aware of this.

While the loss of Jacob deGrom is undoubtedly a significant detraction from the Mets’ preparations, Lindor added that it was the batting that needed to step up this year. Speaking to the media, Lindor appeared to be underplaying the loss of deGrom.

Francisco Lindor signed on as one of the first key acquisitions in the Steve Cohen-era New York Mets as they make their way back to the top. Or at least attempt to scale the peaks that have so far alluded to them.
Lindor added that while losing DeGrom on the mound is significant, even if he was to be pitching, the Mets would need to shore up on offensive output if they were to make a dent.

As Mike Puma reported on his interaction with Lindor, he said, “Even if [deGrom] was on the team, how many games has Jacob lost because we didn’t do our job? Teams can still beat us 1-0. “

The Mets need to bulk up on their lineup if they are going to make a dent this season. And Lindor more so than anyone else. With the shortstop signing on for one of the most well-compensated deals in MLB, he needs to deliver in 2022. And he seems ready to take on the responsibility.

The New York Mets will be keen to challenge for a title and if they are to do that then they will need to perform on the offensive end; all while expecting their pitching stars to come to the party.
Lindor though also expressed some sadness at having lost the services of deGrom from the mound on account of his injury. Said Lindor, “It sucks to watch him on the sideline. I want to see him every 5 days.”
