Seiya Suzuki Update: Chicago Cubs Set to Upset Boston Red Sox Over Slugger’s Signature

Ever since the MLB market has been opened, the Chicago Cubs are having quite a good time. Though the Cubs are yet to sign any major free agent, they are close to completing the Carlos Correa deal. And now, they are eyeing to sign the popular Japanese slugger and free agent Seiya Suzuki.

During the lockout in Major League Baseball, the Boston Red Sox were favorites to sign the Japanese slugger. Though the Red Sox are still not out of the race, the Cubs are now leading the race to sign the Japanese superstar.

Apart from Seiya Suzuki, the Chicago Cubs are also focused to land former Astros shortstop, Carlos Correa.

Notably, Suzuki is yet to play in MLB. Earlier, he has played for Hiroshima Carp of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). And now the Japanese slugger is all set to make his debut in Major League Baseball.

However, the Cubs and Red Sox are not the only teams that are eyeing to land Suzuki in their team. But, some other teams like LA Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, and San Francisco Giants are among the hottest pursuers of Suzuki.

Taking to Twitter, Jon Heyman of MLB Network confirmed the rumors around Suzuki. He tweeted, “Mariners, Giants, Dodgers, Cubs, Red Sox among the hottest pursuers of OF talented all-around OF Seiya Suzuki. 5-time NPB Best Nine award winner.”

Suzuki has been playing in the Japanese league for over 9 years now. During this time, he has been a five-time NPB all-star, and later in 2019, he also won the Central League batting title. Suzuki’s all-around play makes him an even more important asset for any team. He can bat, throw, and pitch at any given time on the field. According to Bleacher Nation, a baseball scout even called him a five-tool guy.
