Carlos Correa close to becoming a New York Yankee?

The New York Yankees were one of the 2 frontrunners to get the shortstop to their ballpark before the lockout. With no natural shortstops currently on their roster and their most exciting prospects still a few years away from the major leagues, the Yankees could well see Correa as a natural fit. Reportedly, there were also some inquisitions made before the lockout.

However, with the financial situation working itself out a bit more clearly over the lockout, the Yankees’ interest may be softening.

Reportedly, while they were in the market for a shortstop, their preferred signing would likely have been Corey Seager. The young shortstop signed on a bumper $325 million contract with the Texas Rangers before the lockout and set the market alight. The free-agent shortstops that now remain will likely be looking for a contract in the region established by Seager.

Specifically, after the pairing with super-agent Scott Boras, it seems unlikely that Correa is going to look at a contract worth less than that of Seager. However, with the lockout still in force, it all only remains speculation. MLB insiders, however, have reported that there is a laundry list of teams still interested in going after Correa.
