Unlike other MLB teams, the current free agency has not been a good one for the New York Yankees. First, they lost some of the major free agents to their rivals, and now the Yankees are struggling with Aaron Judge’s contract extension.

Notably, the Yankees superstar, Aaron Judge, is in the last year of his contract. And if the Yankees do not renew his contract before the end of the 2022 season, Judge will enter free agency.

However, recently, the Yankees did offer Judge an extension, but the star right fielder has reportedly rejected their bid.

Aaron Judge rejects contract renewal offer worth $17 million from the New York Yankees

Considering the kind of free agency they are having, extending Aaron Judge’s contract should be a priority for the New York Yankees. But it seems like there is nothing going right for the Yankees. Because after losing out on some major free agents, the Yankees are struggling to extend Aaron Judge’s contract.

As per MLB insider Bob Nightengale, the Yankees offered him $17 million to extend his contract for a year. But Judge is clear on his stand and has filed for $21 million. The good news is that the Yankees are trying to sign him before the opening day of the new season.

“Aaron Judge trying to join the $20 million club as he files for $21 million; the Yankees counter at $17 million. He will be eligible for free agency after the season but the Yankees say they will try to sign him to an extension before opening day,” tweeted Bob Nightengale.

Now it is up to the Yankees, whether to extend Judge’s contract before the opening or let him go enter free agency. Because Aaron Judge has already clarified that he won’t negotiate his extension once the season starts as he doesn’t want any distractions during the league games.
