MLB is finally back! After a month-long delay, the regular season is finally in motion. Baseball fans were overjoyed in the opening day game between the New York Mets and the Washington Nationals. However, the feeling wasn’t the same for Pete Alonso.

In the first game of the season, Pete Alonso was forced to leave the field mid-game after he took a nasty hit by the Nationals’ pitcher.

It is no secret, that the New York Mets are already suffering from injuries of their key players. Now, if Alonso’s injury also ends up costing him a few games, then the Mets are in for a real problem this season.

Pete Alonso likely to be available for the second game vs the Nationals

The incident took place in the ninth inning. When Alonso was batting at the first base, he got hit by a nasty pitch by the Nationals’ reliever Mason Thompson. Taking no risk, Dom Smith had to replace Alonso at first base. However, as per CBS Sports, Alonso will be fine. But the Mets star has suffered a swollen and cut lip.

The video of the incident is going viral on the internet. After being hit by the pitch, one can see how Alonso walked out of the field. However, the Mets star has confirmed that he’ll be completely fine to play in the second game against the Nationals on Friday.

As per The Score, after the game, Alonso confirmed that it’s all good. “Just a busted lip. Got my teeth, no concussion. It’s all good,” said Pete Alonso.

The opening day was quite eventful for the New York Mets. Even after losing both starting pitchers, Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer, the Mets managed to dominate game one vs the Washington Nationals.

And if the Nationals do not change their approach in game 2, then the Mets will dominate them on Friday, too.
