

Barry Bonds sports one of the greatest records of all time. Some pundits have said that Bonds was hard done by; especially by his non-induction even in his last year on the ballot. Bonds was easily one of the greatest power hitters in the League and having spent a majority of his career at the Giants, the San Francisco Franchise had some words to add.

Bonds was drafted by the Pirates out of college; however, he made a name for himself playing out of the Bay Area. Playing for the Giants, Bonds was a feared presence from home plate and has the record to show for it. Across his playing career, Bonds managed to snag several individual performance awards; and the Giants think a player of his caliber deserves the recognition.

The Giants were quite clear in their messaging. They sincerely felt that Bonds was hard done by and that he deserved the recognition in Cooperstown. Listing his achievements all in a single frame, it would be hard to disagree.

The player amassed a solid record over his playing career. Winning the League MVP Award 7 times is no joke and certainly not for the era that Bonds featured in. To go over a few more of his truly mind boggling achievements, he was a 14 time All-Star.

To put that into context, Bonds was in the major leagues for 22 seasons. He spent more seasons as an All-Star than he spent not playing the All-Star Game. And while there are only a few that doubt his talents as a hitter, Bonds has amassed the Silver Slugger award 12 times.

Even defensively, Bonds was no pushover at in the outfield. Sporting the mitt at Left field, Bonds commanded his side of the park and won 8 Golden Glove awards doing it. The man’s stats make him look like a simulation on a kid’s version of “The Show”.

Barry Bonds – A Storied Career
Bonds sported some of the MLB’s finest stats records. Some even to this day.
His 762 homers remains unmatched even to date. And his walk tally is still one of the highest in the league. Add to that his famous intentional walk in the game against the D-Backs. Where Bonds walked out with the bases loaded and Showalter had some plans. Conceding a home-run just to deny Bonds the chance at a grand-slam.

Even not considering just how iconic Bonds has been, he has amassed 2,558 walks over his career. That is more than most players get to in T-Ball.

The Giants in their statement also mentioned how key he had been to their franchise in their shifting Stadiums and credited Bonds with helping out during the transition.
The Giants took some solace though that the next phase of Hall of Fame voting would see Bonds inducted into esteemed company, “We remain hopeful”, they added.
