The New York Yankees have been a team that has upheld the principle of winning over all else. It’s not every day that you see an MLB team winning 27 titles. However, in recent years, the Yankees’ performance has been slightly underwhelming, and with Opening Day 2022 around the corner, the off-season hasn’t been particularly strong either. The New York Yankees manager Brian Cashman however, seems to think the Yankees have what it takes.

Brian Cashman spoke at Spring Training after the New York Yankees put together a composite performance to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies. After high ambitions to start the off-season with the Yankees looking to resolve roster issues at shortstop and starting pitching, the Yankees have had somewhat of a disappointing off-season with fewer signings than expected.

Does New York Yankees have what it takes?

Despite several superstar free agents being available in the off-season, the New York Yankees were unable to secure their services. While they had deficiencies at shortstop the Yankees failed to get signatures of Carlos Correa and Trevor Story, opting instead for Isiah Kiner-Falefa to man the shortstop position for 2022.

Manager Brian Cashman seems to think that the squad has enough to perform to expectations in 2022. Cashman said, “We were able to attack what was available to us and once we pulled those down, it closed doors on other things.”

Speaking more to the approach that The Yankees took this off-season, Cashman added, “We had a certain amount of money to spend and once you fill those needs, you keep moving.”

And just because the Yankees didn’t land either Correa or Story does not mean that the two weren’t in conversation at all for the signing to go through. Said Cashman, “You engage everybody in the process and see if there’s a fit and if it makes any sense or not.”

The Yankees may look to strengthen with some more starting pitcher depth as the off-season goes on, but it appears as though at least the front office is content with the squad they have in place for 2022. Whether that yields the pennant for the New York Yankees, however, remains to be seen.
