Legendary Gymnast Nastia Liukin Celebrates as Home Team Texas Rangers Clinch First-Ever World Series Championship in 51 Years

All eyes were on Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, in Phoenix, Arizona. The Texas Rangers were one win away from celebrating their first MLB World Series crown. Following four games, they led 3-1. They had recorded scores of 6-5, 1-9, 3-1, and 11-7 in the four games prior to this one. The question on every fan’s lips was: could they do it here and now? As fans of both teams watched on, in game five, the Rangers stepped across the threshold of history.
The Texas Rangers finally won a World Series title. They beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 in front of a sold-out crowd to clinch the World Series 4-1. The title was the first in Rangers’ history, 51 years after the franchise came into being in its current form. The fans whooped with joy. Meanwhile, an established face from Texas joined in to celebrate the triumph.

Russian-born gymnast Nastia Liukin, who now calls the city of Parker, Texas, home, also joined in. She shared a story on Instagram, with an image from the Texas Rangers’ official account that had the words “2023 World Series Champions” imprinted on it. She also shared an image from Sports Illustrated’s official account, celebrating the same.
The Texas Rangers joined the 1969 New York Mets and the 1914 Boston Braves to become the third team to win a World Series after losing 100-plus games, according to ESPN. They lost 102 games in 2021. Fast forward to 2023 and they set a record for most wins on the road in the post-season, with this their 11th in that streak. An important figure in their team got his just desserts for playing his part in the victory.

Corey Seager named World Series MVP

Corey Seager was named the MVP of the World Series for just the second time in his career. He had previously won it with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020. Seager became just the fourth player to achieve the feat twice after Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson, and Reggie Jackson. Jackson and Seager are the only ones to win it with two different franchises.

In this series, Seager hammered three home runs. According to ESPN, the Texas Rangers’ star shortstop also drove in six during the five games contested. He also scored the first run of this game. His 10-year, $325 million deal, inked with the Rangers prior to the 2022 season, will be one of the pivotal moments in the franchise’s history. That eventually led to what is a historic triumph.

There were plenty of disruptions from the crowd during game four. In comparison, game five came and went without incident. The only incident that mattered took place out on the pitch as the Texas Rangers claimed their first World Series title.
