In 1965 Bruce Lee turned up for an audition for William Dozier. The producer first asked him to act out some classic Chinese opera characters. This was an easy task for the master as he had observed his father performing on stage from a young age. Hence, he successfully imitated how a warrior and scholar walked.

Next, Dozier asked to see some gung fu moves from the master. Lee expressed that it was hard to show the moves alone, but he would try his best. Dozier immediately intervened saying, “Well, maybe one of the fellas will walk in.” His crew laughingly pushed their assistant director, a balding man in his late fifties with silver hair and black horn-rim glasses.

Lee’s biography added, “He clearly was not expecting to be the b*tt of the joke.” Moreover, looking at his face and his own plight, the master hilariously commented, “Accidents do happen!”

When Lee began to launch a few quick gung-fu moves on the old man, he flinched every time. However, Dozier firmly asked him not to move. After experiencing a few hits from Lee, the producer joked with his assistant director and asked him to hold on for some more moves. This made the chuckling crew burst into laughter, including Bruce Lee.

Later on, Lee flicked a kick in his groin area and launched a sidekick within inches of the assistant director’s face, showing a way to cheat on the camera. Ultimately, his techniques highly impressed the crew with his speed, accuracy, and control.

This was not the only time, Lee impressed a crew. There was an instance while shooting Enter the Dragon when he dazzled his co-actor with his super fast moves.
