After prolonged years of struggling, Jackie Chan finally paved his way to success. That “overnight” accomplishment from being a mere stuntman to a leading actor felt like a bed of roses to the star. However, his new identity didn’t only impact him, it also changed the way people looked at him. In fact, Chan wanted to take revenge on people who once looked down on him.

In his autobiographical narrative, the $400 million worth actor shared how he felt like a king while visiting places that he previously thought himself not worthy of. In a similar tangent, he recalled how a waiter was once about to bail Chan out because of his dress code.

As per his autobiography Never Grow Up (2015), the Chinese actor always had a fascination with leading a life like the wealthy and rich. He used to visit expensive stores and fancy restaurants and peek from outside, thinking he didn’t deserve to set a foot in there. One of those places, was the Peninsula Hotel.

However, after fame found him, Chan once went in there to meet Hong Kong’s entertainment mogul Sir Run Run Shaw. He visited with eight of his stunt team members, and wore jeans and a tank top to let everyone stare at the new star in town. But as he was strolling in, he was stopped. As the actor wrote in the book, he was told, “I’m sorry, sir, we don’t allow tank tops here.”

On seeing the star’s dilemma, the waiter brought him a shirt which he put on without doing the buttons. However, the next day, Chan visited again, this time dressed in a shirt and a pair of shorts. Again the waiter objected and informed him that they don’t allow shorts either. As they gave him a pair of trousers, the actor wore them without zipping them up. “Lots of people were gawking and pointing, and I felt like a king. All the rich people were respectably dressed, but I wasn’t going to play their game,” shared Chan.
