“It Was Just a Shame”: Jackie Chan Once Revealed a Saddening Fact About His Birthplace

Actor and martial artist Jackie Chan’s road to success began in his birthplace, Hong Kong. By starting as a stuntman in the 1970s for actors like Bruce Lee, Chan eventually led to global domination. Even after achieving the peak of success, “Little Jack” once shared a fact about his birthplace that disappoints him to no end.

Jackie Chan drives the world crazy with his cinematic charm and slapstick comedy. However, even after performing in more than 200 films, his birthplace has not paid tribute to him in the way Chan desires. In his biography, Never Grow Up, the 68-year-old actor opened up about what brought shame to him about Hong Kong.

After becoming famous globally, Jackie Chan was able to amass a net worth of $400 million. He owned several properties in Hong Kong. Amidst them, he also owned four buildings that needed complete refurbishment. He received an offer from the Singapore University of Technology and Design to let him donate his buildings to them as a cultural exchange.

However, in his biography, Chan revealed that he had tried to donate his property to the Chinese government but that did not work out. In fact, Chan also attempted to make his house a tourist spot but the government officials turned down his proposal.

He expressed his disappointment in his biography stating, “ It was just a shame. I was born in Hong Kong, I became famous in Hong Kong, and yet this city doesn’t have one thing named after me, not a thing. Even my props from decades in the movie business are now displayed at the Jackie Chan Film Gallery—in Shanghai.”

Government officials turned down Chan’s proposal saying that no such offering has previously taken place for legends like Bruce Lee or Leslie Cheung, or Anita Mui. So accepting Chan’s proposal might raise issues in the country. Despite Jackie Chan’s bad luck with creating his memorial in Hong Kong, he has been able to own eight houses in China.

A look at Jackie Chan’ lavish houses

Jackie Chan has a net worth of $400 million with properties in major countries all over the world. In China, he owns eight lavish houses. Initially, he bought the houses for 500,000 yuan. However, through the years, their value has been shooting up from 12 million yuan to reportedly 100 million yuan( 65 million) each now.

Moreover, he also owns properties in the United States. One such is a Beverly Hills villa in Los Angeles which he bought in 1998, at $3 million. Last year, he sold his lavish house in Miami.
