In his autobiography,?Never Grow Up, Chan decoded himself in front of his fans. He designed a plethora of incidents in his book, be they good or bad or happy or sad. In a chapter named “Kicker,” he talked about his mental dilemma while struggling with age.?The Rush Hour?actor even mentioned that he intended to take retirement in his forties. Chan wanted to remain the energetic man in his fans’ minds. Addressing this thought, he wrote,?“I don?t want audiences to look at me on-screen and think, ‘He?s too old to still be fighting’. I?ve imagined them shouting from their seats, ‘Please, stop now! This is pathetic to watch.’??In fact, when other actors like him changed their choice of movies, it made him think, “Is it time for me to stop?”

He even talked about how fans did not comprehend the struggles behind his amusing stunts.?“The fighting might have looked slick to audiences, but they couldn?t see the pain behind the glamour. Most people wouldn?t be able to comprehend the agony I?ve felt taking a shower at night, or not being able to straighten my back in the morning,”?Chan penned. But he didn’t stop. To address the reason behind this, the Vanguard actor wrote, “And whenever I stood in a movie theater, watching audiences clap and cheer, all the suffering went to the back of my mind, and I thought only of how I could do even better next time, jump even higher.”

He candidly shared all of his despairs and frights that came from being old and failing to accept the inaction. Led by this dilemma, Chan signed some of his most famous action movies after he touched forty. From movies like Gorgeous, The Myth, Shinjuku Incident, The Karate Kid, New Police Story, Police Story: Lockdown, and The Foreigner, hardly anyone could point out what the actor was going through.
