Jackie Chan is, without a doubt, one of the biggest stars from Asia to arrive in Hollywood after Bruce Lee. This Martial Arts legend got his foothold in the US with the 1995 film ‘Rumble in the Bronx’, and his stardom found a new global reputation. The actor is married to Taiwanese actress Joan Lin, with whom he tied the knot in 1982. However, a few years before that, Chan had romantic thoughts about a Taiwanese singer in one instance. The singer had finished her concert, and amidst the roar of applause for her stunning performance, Chan felt a strange connection with her.

In his 2015 autobiography ‘Never Grow Up’ with Zhu Mo, Jackie Chan narrates this incident in Chapter 14 of his book, appropriately titled, ‘The Fling’. The incident happened in 1979 when Chan and his team were scouting locations for a film in Taiwan.

Teresa Li-Chun, also known as Teresa Teng, was a Taiwanese singer and actress who met Chan when he was filming the movie ‘The Big Brawl (1980)’. It was an accidental meeting in Los Angeles. However, it was only later that Chan reunited with her in Taiwan to rekindle his interest. After The Big Brawl did badly at the box office, Chan returned to Hong Kong and wanted to work in a film desperately to restore his image. While deciding on locations, Chan came up with the idea of Taiwan, mainly because he wanted to meet Teng.

So they met, and after a few meals together, Chan decided to go to one of her concerts. “I went to one of her concerts, too. Sitting in a special box above the auditorium, I saw her looking up and knew she was gazing at me. The crowd clapped and shouted their hearts out for her, and I thought, ‘That’s my girlfriend’,” he wrote about his experience that night in his autobiography.

He left the concert before it ended in order to avoid any commotion. Although he liked spending time with her, he knew it might create problems. Chan has narrated several such intimate incidents from his life in the book, including the darkest phase of his life. One such is that of an obsessive fan.
