Frank Zane revealed his struggle with metabolism

Also known as ‘Sultan of Symmetry’, Zane possessed a proportionate physique that led him to win Mr. Olympia for 3 years consecutively. He even defeated Arnold Schwarzenegger “With a 29″ waist and a stunning V-taper”. Zane has an enormous knowledge of bodybuilding and no one can reach his aesthetics. Despite his wisdom and perseverance, he struggled! Yes, you heard that, he failed to cope with his metabolism.

In an interview with Escape Fitness, he said, “My metabolism wasn’t the best as far as just naturally there are some guys I know they have such good metabolisms for this they can walk past the barbell rack and get it pumped from but not me I had to work hard and find out all the intricacies and I did.” After learning about his problem area, he focused on how to get rid of it and evolved over the years.

He has a mantra that in order to get the perfect physique, one needs to know his body and its needs. It’s very important to work individually as that will help them achieve respectively. When asked about his genetics, he further added, “I divide that into two parts structure, bone structure, muscle structure, and metabolism, the ability to turn food and exercise into muscle…I think I was fortunate in the structure part…I had very small bones but I had a good structure for bodybuilding.”

Frank Zane followed Steve Reeves and his training to develop his structure accordingly. He did work hard on his metabolism and went for the procedures that especially worked for him. Zane liked to keep track of everything and followed a split workout routine focusing on legs, shoulders, and other parts each day. Notably, he was a good squatter that helped him define his smaller hips.
