The New York Knicks have just two NBA championships to their name. In fact, it has been five decades since they won the last of them. That came in 1973 with the legendary Walt “Clyde” Frazier in their ranks. Their last appearance in an NBA finals came before the dawn of the 21st century, in 1999. On that occasion, the Patrick Ewing-led Knicks fell to the San Antonio Spurs. It is well-known Stephen A. Smith is a diehard Knicks fan.

On one occasion, Smith claimed to have begged Damian Lillard to join the franchise. At the time, Lillard was looking for a way out of the Portland Trail Blazers. Eventually, he would get his wish but much to Smith’s chagrin, he would be traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. With the NBA season set to begin in a little over a week, Stephen A. Smith fielded questions on his eponymous show.

I would shave my head bald, said Stephen A. Smith

Stephen A. Smith was asked via X, formerly called Twitter, what he would give to see the Knicks win another NBA championship. After congratulating the questioner for choosing a handle impossible to memorize, Smith suggested he would part with his hair. Following that revelation, there appeared three images of Smith sporting that new look. The instrumental part of Pitbull’s song, Hotel Room Service, played during that slideshow. Also, part of Madison Square Garden was in the background of the last image, with the word ‘Champions’ displayed prominently.

The team from Manhattan had a forgettable off-season with two losses and a win so far. They sent power forward Obi Toppin to the Indiana Pacers. In return, they get two future second-round picks. They also relied almost exclusively on free-agent signings. That being the case, it remains to be seen if they could mount a serious challenge this season. Stephen A. Smith clearly is in their corner. His position had the fans in splits, with them making more requests that were likely to go unfulfilled.

Absurd requests from the fans followed

One asked that Smith wear a Dallas Cowboys jersey during an episode of First Take. He had been particularly critical of the Cowboys and their quarterback Dak Prescott recently.

Another suggested he could swear loyalty to the Cowboys.

Yet another posited besides the hair, Smith shaved off his eyebrows as well, just to complete the look.

One more suggested that Smith invite Max Kellerman back to the show. Kellerman was one of the co-hosts of First Take, departing in 2021.

Probably the most hilarious one was from a fan suggesting Smith sport a Speedo and a tank top in addition to one of his ties for an episode of the show!

Smith made that same suggestion on an earlier episode of his show, where he also critiqued an unnamed personality. In that same clip, he affirmed his affection for both Kellerman and Marcellus Wiley. It remains to be seen just how serious Smith was while making this suggestion. The Knicks will play host to the Boston Celtics in their first game on October 25.
