Amidst Patriots’ NFL Downfall, Dave Portnoy Names Latest Super Bowl Favorite

The New England Patriots have always been Dave Portnoy’s team. Though Bill Belichick remains their coach, Tom Brady is no longer there. The winningest NFL player in Super Bowl history retired earlier this year. Moreover, he left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, winning his record seventh Super Bowl ring in 2021 with them. The Patriots, meanwhile, have been in free fall.
Dave Portnoy’s team reached the playoffs only once since Brady’s departure. On that occasion, they lost to the Buffalo Bills. Despite Belichick leading them to a historic 300th regular season win, they are 2-7 for the season. The comeback win involved Mac Jones throwing a last-second touchdown to win them a game. In light of all that, while he did not officially switch allegiance, Portnoy has a new Super Bowl favorite lined up.

He wrote, “NFL Power Rankings 1. Bengals 2. Bengals 3. Bengals 4. Bengals 5. Eagles In other news I have officially placed a grand total of 67k on the Bengals to win the Super Bowl to win a million.“ Portnoy also added the hashtags #WhoDey and #brrrrr.

The Cincinnati Bengals, Dave Portnoy revealed, were his new favorite to win this edition of the Super Bowl. Zac Taylor’s team is rooted to the foot of the AFC North table, presently. Regardless, they are 5-3 for the season, winning all of their last four games. Portnoy added he’d placed a sizeable bet on the Bengals’ eventual success in the Super Bowl. According to him, they are the form team of the NFL.

Philadelphia Eagles with the league’s best record so far
The Philadelphia Eagles, whom Dave Portnoy named as the fifth-best team in the NFL, are enjoying an 8-1 record this season. That solitary loss came against the New York Jets in October. Since then, they have put together a run of three wins on the bounce, including a convincing win over the Miami Dolphins the week after.

Dave Portnoy isn’t exactly the go-to guy for football insights. He spotted the second coming of Tom Brady in the relatively inconsistent Mac Jones. Despite the Patriots facing a decline, Portnoy praised them multiple times. However, with their playoff chances looking slim this time, he chose to exclude them from his list of favorites altogether. Whether the Cincinnati Bengals can deliver on the promise of the last few weeks and make a march toward the playoffs remains to be seen.
