Rob Gronkowski is making valuable contributions to Boston even after switching teams. The NFL tight end spent the majority of his career in Boston playing for the New England Patriots. Back in 2010, Gronkowski was picked up by the Patriots as the forty-second pick in round two. Soon after the seasons began to roll, the Patriots found their faith repaid as Gronkowski went on to become a legend of the sport.

Although Gronkowski joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, his heart still seems to beat for Boston. Recently, the NFL tight end has made a big donation to support the sporting culture of the city. And guess what? The amount of his donation beat his $600k salary barrier by some margin!

Rob Gronkowski gets generous towards a playground in Boston

NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski has made a huge announcement. Together with the Gronk Nation Youth Foundation, a sum of $1.2 million has been donated to restore a playground in Boston. The site in question is the Charlesbank Playground near the Charles River Esplanade. Not only did the 31-year-old make a huge donation, he also set up a trust for the maintenance and well-being of the property.

As a matter of fact, his youth foundation works exclusively towards helping kids come back to the field. They make programs and donations to attract future generations to pursue sports while also helping them with their studies. Surprisingly, Rob Gronkowski’s donation is much more than what he earned as a salary from the Patriots.

Back in 2013, he was being handed a handsome amount of $600k as his salary. After playing for 11 years, the tight end has garnered almost $70 million. In his ‘It’s Good to Be Gronk’ book, the 34-year-old made the revelation where he mentioned that he did not spend anything from his NFL contract money. Instead, he sustained from the marketing money he got. Meanwhile, Gronkowski elaborated on his donation further and how it would help the cause.

Rob Gronkowski cannot help but love Boston. Reflecting on his recent philanthropy, the NFL tight end stated, No matter where I go, or where I live, I will always have a special connection to New England and the people who live here… The Patriots taught me the importance of giving back the very first day I stepped into that organization.”

The money donated will be utilized to renovate the slides, swings, and other climbing structures of the playground. While Gronkowski has showered so much love for Boston, the city has also given him back a lot. In what was a great gesture of honor, Rob Gronkowski will serve as the grand marshal for the 2024 Boston Marathon.
