Dave Portnoy is not one to back down in the face of a challenge. He stands resolute in the face of opposition that might overwhelm a lesser man. One example of that is Portnoy’s response to YouTube’s stance on Season Three of Surviving Barstool. The show was taken off that platform. As a result, Portnoy made the episodes available on a pay-per-view basis, each costing $9.99.

Now, Dave Portnoy issued a challenge to purchasers of the ongoing season of the show. He took to his social media to make clear the terms surrounding said challenge.

Terms and conditions accompanying the challenge

Dave Portnoy took to his X handle to announce the contest and its terms and conditions. He wrote, “For whoever guesses the closest to the # of pay-per-view buys we do in the comments of this tweet and has a receipt of purchase of Surviving Barstool, I will give 10k. You must comment and purchase before 9 pm EST. If you edit your guess or have multiple guesses, it’s auto DQ.” In another tweet as part of the same thread, Portnoy wrote, “The answer will be [the] number of buys at 9 pm when [the] show ends. Good luck.”

Surviving Barstool fell into YouTube’s black books after violating its guidelines regarding incitement of violence. One contestant (Kirk Minihane) threatened to blow up host Jeff D. Lowe’s house. YouTube wanted Barstool Sports to edit out the offending parts or risk losing their channel. Dave Portnoy’s response? He said, in one of his trademark emergency press conferences, No f**g way was I gonna edit Surviving Barstool. It’s awesome, we are us. If you don’t get its jokes, and it’s a reality show, f**k you, YouTube.”

Dave Portnoy calls the kvetchers poor people

As Dave Portnoy noted in that same video, $9.99 is the price of a cup of coffee. He further added, I think everyone who’s complaining about $9.99, it’s a f**g cup of coffee, are poor people.” Portnoy referred to the time he could not afford a hamburger while a resident of Abington, Massachusetts. Even then, he noted, he did not complain about nine bucks.

Dave Portnoy’s takes, while noteworthy, inevitably rub some people the wrong way. There are exceptions to that rule, most notably his stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict. Those are few in number, however. Regardless, Portnoy will push on with the good of his company in his sights. It remains to be seen who wins the challenge, though.
