Taking away the natural habitat of a creature, whether it is aquatic or territorial, might cause some severe consequences to its overall life cycle. Not only do they have to endure physical changes, but the change in surroundings might also take a toll on their psychological well-being. And, a similar instance happened in Miami, where a deep-sea creature was immorally held captive for decades and it is heartbreaking. Following this, the Barstool Sports President joined the chorus with millions of others to make a plea to release the sea’s native.

While Portnoy normally restricts himself to the realm of NFL and NBA, the latest piece of news is too profound for him to turn a blind eye to. Making animals succumb to the mankind’s twisted wishes is something the New England Patriots fan couldn’t digest, and he had to amplify the message to the world.

In the video clip shared by Portnoy, the hellish life of a manatee makes us flinch. Romeo, the 67-year-old manatee, has been detained at the Miami Seaquarium since 1957. That’s 66 years of a hostage situation.

Manatees are semi-social animals and need the proximity of comrades to live a happy life. However, humans have intervened to snatch away the possibility of a healthy life from Romeo. As he took to his Instagram to share the video, Portnoy wrote, “Close this f****** place down and throw in jail whoever did this“.

His hostility is justified given how small the enclosure for Romeo is. The manatee is kept in a water tank inside an area that’s off-limits to the public.

Portnoy has demanded that the Miami Seaquarium be shut down because of its treatment of the harmless sea creature. The “Pompano Pools” area isn’t a place where tourists are allowed in, and this has helped the authorities to keep things under the radar for so long.

In the vdeo, the manatee can be seen wriggling around its small enclosure and its solo existence should evoke a sense of sadness among humans. Portnoy calls his fans to arms with the battle cry of #freeromeo. Hopefully, the right people take notice and Romeo’s long-lived nightmare finally comes to an end.
