The main point of contention is the referee’s decision not to penalize Reddick for his tackle on Allen. And that got Dave Portnoy raging in anger against the match referee. Critics argued that the tackle was dangerous and could have resulted in a serious injury to Allen. And to that what Dave called a ‘horrible‘ show of ethics from the referee. He quoted, “I bet the Bills big tonight. Refs were horrible. But bottom line is a high school team can complete the play to the end zone from the 25 that would have ended it. That’s it. Nobody else to blame.”

He also contended that the referee’s failure to penalize Reddick for his tackle is indicative of a larger problem with officiating in the NFL. Despite the outcry from fans and experts, the NFL has yet to take any action in response to the controversy.  However, no flag was thrown, leading to an uproar among NFL fans on social media.

Allen was visibly upset with the referees for not calling a penalty on the tackle. A penalty at that juncture would have given the Bills a fresh set of downs and some extra yards, potentially changing the course of the game.

The incident has led to calls for a review of the rules governing such tackles. However, the loss followed by the faulty tackle overshadowed Allen’s stellar performance. Despite his run against the fate, where he went for 169 yards with two touchdowns and one interception passing, the Bills were unable to secure a victory. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of player safety in the NFL and the need for stricter enforcement of the rules governing tackles.
