It was billed as a clash between two playoff contenders. The Ohio State Buckeyes took on the Penn State Nittany Lions. Nationally ranked 3rd and 7th, respectively, they averaged 36 and 44 points a game coming into this clash. In the end, the Buckeyes edged out the Nittany Lions. The scoreline at the end showed 20-12, far from the offensive masterclass expected of either side. Dave Portnoy, who watched the game,  shared his disgust at the tactics employed by both teams.

Dave Portnoy is a Michigan University alum. The Wolverines, like the Buckeyes, are unbeaten thus far. While the Buckeyes are 7-0, the Wolverines extended their streak to 8-0 following a 49-0 win over the Michigan State Spartans later the same day. That took their average per game to a little over 40 points. Portnoy praised his team and simultaneously criticized the other two powerhouses.

Dave Portnoy took to X, formerly called Twitter, to upload a clip containing his thoughts on the game. He conveyed his disgust at the game that unfolded. Portnoy said the game made him want to throw up. He added, “… I gotta apologize to the entire country. These two teams were disgusting, their offenses were disgusting, their play-calls were disgusting, everything about that football game was disgusting.”

According to Dave Portnoy, the Wolverines would do away with both teams easily. As he put it, they are an “emerging dynasty” aside from being the captain of the Big 10. Portnoy said, “… Michigan will get rid of them both. We’ll clean up, get rid of the trash like we always do …” Dave Portnoy further wished his team had been out there on the field to give one of the two sides a proper hiding.

According to CBS Sports, this was a game dominated by the respective defenses. “Every single inch was fought for, and more often than not, was lost.” The Buckeyes’ offense had just enough to eke out the win. Dave Portnoy expected more from this clash, and it failed to deliver. He said, “… There’s no excuses. Big noon kickoff, disgusting, disgusting, disgusting. Ohio State, disgusting. Penn State, disgusting. That type of football, disgusting.”

Up next for Dave Portnoy’s team are the Purdue Boilermakers. They are presently 2-5 for the season. After that, they will play host to Penn State. The Nittany Lions lost their unbeaten record after losing to the Buckeyes. They will need to win every remaining game to stay in the hunt for the playoffs.

Dave Portnoy concluded his remarks with one more apology directed at the American public. The Wolverines will get the chance to prove Portnoy right regarding his predictions. It remains to be seen how well the Wolverines do against the Nittany Lions and the Buckeyes. The game against the latter is their last of the regular season. They will hope to seal a spot in the playoffs long before that clash.
