The Boston Bruins are in a bit of a pickle. The TD Garden witnessed the Bruins lose their fifth game in a row and fans are naturally not happy with interim head coach Joe Sacco. And his stock certainly didn’t improve after the reaction he gave to Boston’s 2-1 loss against the New York Islanders.

When he was asked about the loss to the New York Islanders, Joe Sacco could only say, “We didn’t get the points, which is the most critical thing, but I do believe for the long term there’s some stuff to build on for this group.” Long term? Some stuff? The Bruins are languishing at sixth in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference with the playoffs around the corner.

Ilya Sorokin stopped a staggering 38 shots while goals by Alexander Romanov and Kyle Palmieri’s led the New York Islanders to overpower Joe Sacco’s team. In fact, the Bruins hadn’t scored until 9:56 remained on the clock, with their only goal coming from David Pastrnak. What makes the loss even more awkward for Sacco is that just a couple of days ago he had said that the team has all the firepower it needs to score enough goals to win.

And if the loss was not enough, the Bruins lost Matt Poitras in the second period of the game. With Trent Frederic also being out with a lower-body injury he sustained in the Toronto game, things look bleak for the Bruins this season. And fans have had enough.

Boston Bruins fans refuse to cut Joe Sacco any slack

One fan has let go of their hopes for this season: “The Bruins lost me this year. No hustle, no discipline. Face it fellow Bruins fans…..Its over” Meanwhile, another fan couldn’t figure out what Joe Sacco actually meant by long term. “Long term?!! There’s like 22 games left 🥴.” Joe Sacco’s team is currently on the verge of losing everything. After playing 60 games in the season, their win-loss record with overtime loss is just 27-25-8. That’s why a fan called the team to start over, “Sell off whatever you can and build for the future.”

Complimentary to this, some fans think that the higher-ups need to be held accountable: “Ownership needs to clean house. Fire Neely and Sweeney. Failures.” But that doesn’t mean Joe Sacco caught a break. A triggered fan took direct shots at the interim head coach, saying, “This guy needs to find the unemployment line come the offseason.” While another wrote, “I think Joe is an assistant, not a head coach.” Ouch.

The Bruins franchise had hired Joe Sacco as an assistant coach in 2024 but later promoted him to the associate coach position after a decade. After Jim Montgomery’s firing, the Boston Bruins appointed Sacco as an interim coach. Needless to say, he has an uphill climb to make, and with rumors of Brad Marchand getting traded doing the rounds, there’s no telling how the Bruins will end up when the dust settles.
