A General Manager and a good friend
Jeff Petry has established himself in the NHL through sheer control and consistency on the rink. While his stats are not what they used to be in his heyday, he still is a force to reckon with. His exchange for Gustav Lindstrom was the third time he switched teams in the last 13 months. Because of this, Petry is facing a lot of instability. General Manager Kent Hughes called Petry and told him he understood his situation.

Hughes told Petry, “we’re mindful that you’ve got a family and your own career and Montreal is probably not the place you’re expecting to play.” Hughes promised Petry that he would not compromise his situation just to get a maximized deal. Petry is now heading home to Detroit and will play for the Red Wings. This portrays Hughes’ commitment to his players irrespective of whether or not they will be in his fold.
